YOUR LOCAL PUB(LICATION)
ART DIRECTION and GRAPHIC DESIGN for Your Local Pub(lication).
Your Local Pub is an independent small press created by Brad Gilbert and Michael Caplan. We want to be a resource for small artists and designers who don’t always have good options to start publishing collections of their work.
We’re trying to approach publications from a different angle, thinking about bindings that allow for deconstruction and reconstruction into wall-hanging prints.

BIHAN LIN
ART DIRECTION and GRAPHIC DESIGN for Bihan Lin SS24 <Wild Leaves>.
Drawing from the collection’s inspiration (Patti Smith’s Wild Leaves and the film Bandit) I looked to build upon Bihan’s existing logo to create a 3D logo for the collection that matched the energy and colour of the source material. Bihan’s print designs were created using scanned leaves and I built upon these images to create more abstract patterns. I also continued this approach into the lookbook and display proposal to achieve something that felt energetic but not sporty.

HAPPY BETSY
ART DIRECTION, PHOTOGRAPHY and GRAPHIC DESIGN for Betsy Leung’s 2022 MA Collection, titled ‘HappyBetsy’. The collection is a punk re- interpretation of Cinderella’s fairy Godmother’s dress.
Following a punk ethos, the logo was designed to be energetic, hand-written and varied from poster to poster. The lookbook was accented with frames and details inspired by early illustrations of Cinderella.

UNUSED SPACE
EXPERIENTIAL DESIGN, PRODUCT DESIGN and PHOTOGRAPHY for a self-initiated project.
Unused space was an exploration into the question, “If the purpose of a photo is to capture an experience, should the form of a photo book also represent its experience?”
After experiencing multiple flash floods during a stay in Hong Kong, I created a photo book in the form of an umbrella — the dominant object in the city at the time. 2019
